Kununurra

Our last night in Broome was spent at the Sun outdoor cinema in town which apparently is the oldest picture theatre in Australia. We sat in deck chairs with the stars above and watched 'Angels and Demons' with Tom Hanks.

From Broome we headed towards Kununurra. But as it is over 1000kms we had to have an overnight stop in Halls Creek. Motel room there was OK,although the walls were paper thin, but was happy not to hang around in that place. The drive from Halls Creek to Kununurra is very picturesque through the King Leopold and Durack Ranges with lots of winding roads and creek and river crossings.
Unfortunately after the Wyndham turn off we came across an accident involving an old Toyota Troop Carrier that had rolled and landed on its roof. The occupants, 2 young german tourists, managed to crawl free, we don't know how as the roof on the drivers side was squashed flat! An ambulance came and took them to hospital and some of us helped clear the debris off the road. It was very side clearing all their belongings up and it was a sobering experience.
The north of WA is filled with lots of grey nomads and young overseas backpackers travelling around. People up here are friendly, both locals and tourists and its a pleasant change from nasty Perth.
Staying here in Kununurra for 4 nights in a nice apartment overlooking Lily Creek Lagoon. Its even got a sofa - all the more comfortable to watch the footy!!!
